CURRICULUM INTENT

Wath Academy implements a broad and diverse curriculum steeped in the traditions of the school, flexible to the modern careers landscape and focused on our wider community. This is delivered via a three-year Key Stage 3 and a two-year Key Stage 4. We consider that curriculum is everything that students experience during their time at the Academy. Wath offers a broad range of enrichment and wider opportunities to complement our outstanding range of first-rate academic qualifications covering the Sciences, Arts and Sport.

The curriculum offer at Wath Academy includes core study of English, Maths and Science. Within the core, every student receives an education in Religious Studies, Life Skills, Character Education and Healthy Living. This curriculum ensures that Wath Students develop exceptional character and high levels of cultural and global awareness. The ethos promoted and subjects studied prepares Wath students to become responsible students that contribute to our community for future generations.

In addition to the core offer at Wath Academy we have a wide programme of subjects to offer across Key Stages three, four and five. All subjects are delivered by a team of specialists and promote the love of reading ensuring students develop a life-long passion for learning.

At Wath students are offered a wide choice of subject qualifications to study. Our students can tailor their own curriculum meaning they study the subjects that they are passionate about or wish to pursuit a career in. Students have the choice to follow academic routes, vocational routes or a combination of the two, as they feel will serve them best. This bespoke approach to curriculum at Wath means that our students are provided an educational experience full of positive memories.

We believe that all our students should be able to access our curriculum. However, we also understand that some students require more support than others.

Teachers and leaders will ensure that the needs of all students are met, including:

  • High prior attaining students
  • Low prior attaining students
  • Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Pupils with SEND
  • Pupils with English as an additional language (EAL)

SEND provision will be provided as set out in our SEND policy. Further information can be found in our statement of equality and objectives, and in our SEND policy and information report.

If you would like further information about our courses, please contact reception by telephone on (01709) 760222. Mr Swann is responsible for the curriculum on offer at Wath Academy and Subject leaders are able to answer any questions about the subject they lead.
