Public Services

Public Services is targeted at learners who would like to gain employment in the public services sector and have been developed to provide further training and education and progression opportunities within this sector. The qualifications will develop learners’ abilities through the knowledge and skills gained in the programme and are suitable for learners who would like to know more about employment in uniformed or non-uniformed public services.

Following the Edexcel exam board, we offer two options at KS5:

The Subsidiary Diploma (1 A level equiv.)

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma offers an engaging programme which covers the following units during six periods per week:

  • Government, Policies and the Public Services
  • Physical Preparation for the Public Services
  • Crime and its Effects on Society
  • Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
  • Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services

The Diploma (2 A level equiv.)

The 120 credit BTEC Level 3 Diploma broadens and expands the specialist work-related focus from the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work.

The units covered include the above from the Subsidiary Diploma, plus the following delivered in 12 lessons per week:

  • Understanding the Impact of War
  • Understanding Discipline in the Public Services
  • Aspects of the Legal System & the Law Making Process
  • Command & Control
  • Personnel and Human Resources
  • Police Powers
  • Responding to Emergency Service Incidents
